10 things to do with the kiddies this Autumn

It's nearing the end of summer and the children have already started to notice signs of Autumn all around us. Leaves are starting to change colour and fall and we have already spotted lots of juicy blackberries, in the woods, ready to pick.

As one season blends into the next I always start thinking about activities, here are some I am planning for Autumn:

1) Learning all about Hibernation and which animals hibernate, here are some great links:

Which UK animals hibernate?
There are some lovely colouring sheets here too:
Autumn Scene

2) Making a bug hotel and Hedgehog Home to get close up with wildlife! See the links we used here:
Give a hog a home!

Build a bug hotel!

3) Blackberry picking in our local woods and surrounding areas! We usually make pies, ice lollies and edible paint for DD4!

4) Making leaf biscuits with the little ones for those extra cuppas!!
Here's a nice recipe:
Gingerbread Men Recipe - but we cut ours into leaves!

5) Collecting leaves and identifying trees - making leaf rubbings and clay decorations!

6) Making a nature table with all their findings!

7) Making bird feeders!
We filled round tubs with water and placed a cup in the centre of each one. The kiddies added nuts and seeds before popping them into the freezer overnight. In the morning they pulled out the cups, pressed out the bird feeders and tied them up with ribbons, ready to hang in around the garden!

8) Finding out why it gets darker earlier! This is one for the older kiddies! ;)

9) Painting a large tree, writing high frequency words onto coloured paper leaves and sticking them onto the tree for revision!

10) Finding conkers and acorns then using them to create Art. Line a tray with paper and add drops of paint. Add the conkers and move the tray about so the conkers roll around in the paint, over the paper and see the great Art you've made!!
