Science lesson with DS6 - reversible and irreversible changes

We have been learning about reversible & irreversible changes by testing what happens to chocolate as we experimented with it in this fun, tasty activity.
We started with chocolate (a solid) and melted it into a liquid by mixing it in a bowl over a pan of boiling water. Then DS6 poured it into our chosen mould (a snowflake shape, which is the plastic container from Cadbury's Dairy Milk Snowballs).
He then popped it into the fridge to harden back into a solid! Yum!!

Can all substances be turned back to their original form or will they stay that way forever? Try dissolving flour, sugar and sand in a beaker of water, what happens? Is it what you expected? Is melting ice an irreversible change? How about cooking an egg or making toast?
Challenge the kiddies to answer these questions!!
