History Resources!!!

History Bombs, a UK start up providing explosive history content for thousands of pupils across the world, last night (26/11/2017) won the prestigious BAFTA Children’s Award 2017 for Kids Learning. The young company based in London were up against a high quality field of leading British indies. "We started History Bombs to bring history to life for children everywhere and the reaction has been fantastic. To be recognised by BAFTA is a testament to the incredible work our small, creative and passionate team have delivered. Hopefully this is just the start for History Bombs!"

Recycling over the Winter Holidays

Image
Please be mindful of waste over the next few weeks!! It's a great time to get the kiddies learning about the 3 R's!!!

Reduce, Reuse & Recycle!

Here are some top tips on recycling:

1) Buy products made with recyclable materials.

2) Encourage your little artists - We love to collect loo rolls, tubs and cardboard boxes, they come in handy for some great model making activities for the kiddies or when you need cardboard to make learning resources!

3) Know what you can and can't recycle so you don't accidentally put things straight into your waste bin!

4) If you're a homeowner, consider rearranging your plumbing so that rainwater or wastewater from your shower and tub is used to flush your toilet. If you have a garden, water it with leftover bathwater or dishwashing water (as long as you use a biodegradable soap).

Teach the kiddies!!!

Here are some great printables about Recycling!

Education is more than just results! By Ross Mountney

Image
Those of you who’ve read my books will know it’s while since our family ‘graduated’ from home education. Those little girls you may have met in ‘A Funny Kind of Education’, and featured in the stories in ‘A Home Education Notebook to Encourage and Inspire’, are now in their twenties. I can hardly believe it! But I still write to support the home educating community because I remember how valuable it was to talk to others who had grown through home education and were leading a grown up life – as mine now do. It’s reassuring to hear of homeschool youngsters who are working and independent and intelligent and social and all the other things we worry about when we start out! So I’m very happy to contribute to Nicola’s blog and continue that support. We turned to home education because our two were just not thriving in school and that soon reflected in their health. Plus the fact I’d worked in classrooms and felt that much of what went on wasn’t that great! So we thought we’d give it a try.…

Activities with Snow!

Image
Well the kiddies are counting down the days until Winter and have already taken their sledges out of storage hoping that it snows this year!

For now, all their cuddly toys are happily being pulled down the stairs!!!

We have been thinking about fun experiments and activities they would like to do in case a blizzard does blow this way!

1) Timing how long is takes for snow to melt in different places. Collect small samples of snow in containers and place them around the house. Perhaps one on the radiator, one in the cupboard etc. time how long it takes for each to melt by checking every minute and noting any changes taking place.

2) Take the little ones out with their paint pots and brushes paint in the snow! They could try using spray bottles to squirt the paint or food colouring onto the snow!

3) Make a sensory snow tray to bring inside. Collect snow on a tray adding any winter themed activities you like such as small, plastic Artic animals or even bits of nature.

4) Make an outdoor…
