Asthma in children

DD13 and DS11 were diagnosed with asthma when they were very young. Since then, they have been on various inhalers and hospitalised a few times due to it. People tell me how common asthma is in children and they can eventually grow out of it, I am hoping this is the case.

Over the years I have come to understand what triggers their asthma but I don't feel I have been given enough advice from health professionals. Everyone seems to tell me something different from the hospital telling me to change my GP to an asthma nurse who advised me to take them off the preventer much too early and I seem to have a constant battle on my hands to get hold of blue Ventolin inhalers, when my kids are supposed to have access to them at all times, it's been quite frustrating.

Anyhow, after looking online I found this great asthma website https://www.asthma.org.uk/advice/resources/ which has lots of great advice. I even ordered the children's asthma pack which is fab! It comes with a poster and stickers for children to keep a diary of how they're feeling.

'If you’re a parent of a child who’s recently been diagnosed with asthma or you want to understand how to manage your child’s asthma well, we recommend ordering our ‘My Asthma Pack’. It contains:
  • 2 x ‘My Asthma Plan’ (a written asthma action plan for children)
  • 1 x ‘My Asthma Calendar’
  • 1 x set of ‘My Asthma Stickers’
  • 1 x ‘Asthma and My Child’ booklet
Order your free copy of our 'My Asthma Pack' today by calling 0300 222 5800 and choosing option 2.'

I recommend anyone whose child has asthma to order this pack, it's really helped me as I felt in the dark about asthma in children for such a long time. Hope this helps someone. x
